RENSHI GREG GYSIN PROFILE

what is ki sei do kai?

Ki Sei Do Kai is an Australian Martial Arts system designed and founded by Renshi Greg Gysin, 6th Dan.  Greg is a highly experienced Martial Artist with over 30 years of training, both in Australia and Overseas. This system was developed from the best of the Korean, and Japanese systems of Martial Arts, incorporating some Western disciplines. As an example, think of Ki Sei Do Kai as a bridge, with the supports of the bridge being Western Style Boxing, Tae Kwon Do/ Karate and Aikido.

Essentially Ki Sei Do Kai was designed to be a realistic system of self-defence incorporating the four ranges of fighting - kicking range, punching range, grappling range and ground work.  For an individual to be proficient in self defence, he or she must be proficient in all four ranges.  Therefore Ki Sei Do Kai teaches the arts of  Kicking, Punching and Striking as well as realistic Throwing and Restraining techniques, at higher belt levels.

At all times positive transfer is taught, ie. what techniques you learn in the Dojo, does not change in the street, or in realistic fighting scenarios.  Ki Sei Do Kai also believes that the mind moves the body, therefore we must train the mind, and not just the body.  This is done through the study of Ki, and the understanding of energy.  Therefore, Ki Sei Do Kai employs the principles of redirection, using the opponents attacks against them.  When understood and properly trained, it is a very realistic and effective form of self defence.
